Seychelles Young Leaders Programme moves to the University of Seychelles
The Seychelles Young Leaders Programme (SYLP) is an initiative of President James Michel announced in June 2007 to develop the leadership potential of young Seychellois. After successfully graduating a first cohort in January 2010, a second 2 year cycle was launched in collaboration with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA), a College of the National University of Ireland.
It was always the intention of the government to transfer the SYLP to an appropriate higher education institution in view of the academic focus of the programme, once the capacity in Seychelles to do so became available. Therefore, effective the 1st of May 2010, the SYLP programme has been transferred to the University of Seychelles. The transfer is not expected to affect the academic programme of the second cohort of SYLP students in any way. In fact by integrating and enrolling them as students of the University of Seychelles as well as IPA, will provide an important platform for the programme to continue to develop in Seychelles for many years to come. Whilst the University of Seychelles will undertake the overall coordination and management of the SYLP programme, IPA will continue to deliver the academic programme with no expected changes.
In order to formalize this arrangement, an MOU was signed between the Vice -Chancellor of Unisey Dr. Rolph Payet and the Principal Secretary in the Vice-Presidents Office and the SYLP Coordinator, Ms. Lucy Athanasius , to ensure continued delivery of the programme with minimum disruption to studies in this 2Nd Cycle. The President's office , represented by the PS in the Vice-President s office retains the portfolio responsibility for this programme.
