Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (UK) Programme

ICSA is the chartered membership and qualifying body for professionals working in governance, risk and compliance, including company secretaries. Our members work at senior levels in all sectors of the industry. With over 120 years of experience, ICSA champions high standards of governance by providing qualifications, training, high-quality guidance and, and also through work with regulators and policy makers.

Chartered Secretaries are high-ranking professionals with a diverse set of skills; trained in corporate law, finance, governance and corporate secretarial practice. Chartered Secretaries are the providers of independent advice on conduct, governance and compliance in business. They can also offer legal and accounting advice and manage the development of strategy and corporate planning.

Qualifications on offer in 2017/18:

ICSA Level 1

Applied Business Law

A general framework of the legal principles underpinning business law, as appropriate to the role of the chartered secretary.

Corporate Governance

Provides the knowledge and key skills necessary to be an adviser to governing authorities across the private, public and voluntary sectors, or the NHS in the case of the health service governance module.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

Provides the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and supervise the execution of the financial responsibilities of a chartered secretary.

Corporate Law

Provides an understanding of the legal framework governing organisations with particular focus on the registered company but with applications in all sectors.

Entry Requirements

Open entry qualification – meaning anyone can study to become a chartered secretary. Dependent on existing qualifications and experience, there are different routes through this qualification.

Programme Details

Length: Progression from level to level is dependent on completion of the various modules as per the syllabus. Assessment of each module is via a three-hour written examination.
